FIVE WAYS TO COZY UP YOUR HOME THIS WINTER
Use these tips to make your home cozy and inviting over the coming winter months.
- Swop light bulbs
This is probably one of the easiest and most effective ways of making your home a cozy space. Check to see what type of light bulbs you’re using. There is quite a bit of difference between cool white and warm white, so you may find a simple switch could add new brightness to your space.
2. Decorate with fairy lights
This may not be everyone’s cup of tea but using fairy lights in subtle ways can make a drab room fab! For example, drape a string of lights over your head board (kids love this!) or make a nest of fairy lights and place in a glass dish or vase as a table centerpiece. These versatile lights are not just for Christmas time.
3. Install bathroom heaters (you can thank us later)
Bathroom heaters are probably one of the best inventions ever. Especially for those freezing cold mornings. As soon as you wake up switch on your bathroom heater and by the time you need to hop out of the shower, your bathroom will feel warm and toasty.
4. Use lamps or counter lighting rather than overhead lights
Switch off those overhead downlights and rather use lamps. They will cast a warm glow over certain areas in your home and are kinder to the eyes. Otherwise use a combination of lamps and under counter strip lights to also cast a glow over specific areas such as bookshelves or artwork.
5. Use dimmers to create a soft glow
To adjust the mood in the living room and dining room, consider dimmable lights to create the perfect ambience. And, most important of all, the bedroom: These lights should be warm and the dimmest out of all your lights in your home, especially just before bed to invoke the sleep hormone melatonin.
And don’t you forget to shut off those blue light-producing smart phones, laptops, e-readers and TVs at least a half-hour before bedtime!
